The world and its mother love One Direction (we asked, she faxed us confirmation), but it seems that in some parts of America certain members of the band haven’t been setting the place on fire.
Music bible, The Rolling Stone reviewed the boys’ New Jersey concert last week, and while they acknowledge that Niall Horan and Liam Payne were “charismatic”, they were pretty dismissive of the other members, namely Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.
Speaking about the video segments of the show, the reviewer said: “These clips initially did more to show off the personalities of each One Directioner than the boys themselves did on stage, despite demonstrations on Twitter and elsewhere of being entertaining fellows.”
The review continued: “Payne and Horan were easily the most charismatic of the group, with the former taking to the edges of the stage and the tops of the speakers to engage the crowd while the latter spiced up the band's walk-and-hit-your-mark choreography with his own goofy movements.
“Often singled out as the heartthrob, Styles embraced that status with flirtatious looks and gestures throughout, while both Malik and Tomlinson seemed to fade into the background more often than not.”
Despite not completely warming to the boys, Rolling Stone did admit: “A Twitter Q&A populated by live questions – including seat numbers! – allowed for more charm, as accents, 'dance' moves and joke-telling skills were put on display.”
We find it strange that both Louis and Zayn could be accused of being overshadowed. Sure Zayn is quieter and moodier than the other boys, but we feel he has enough stage presence to totally carry it.
And has for Louis... How can anyone misinterpret his vibe, he’s like the world’s most flamboyant Labrador!
