Oh Matt, 'tis a real shame.
Poor Matt Cardle. It can’t be easy ‘parting ways’ (i.e. being dropped) from your music label.
Oh yes people, after just 18 months, Matt has said goodbye to Columbia Records and walked off into a musical sunset, to continue on his own.
But don't go worrying yourselves, Matt explained everything in a very concise tweet:
‘I have parted ways with Columbia records, we were heading in different directions, big news coming soon… so excited! :) love you all xx’
At least he seems happy enough.
However, this is sadly not a one off. For lots of Simon Cowell’s male X Factor winners, ‘parting ways’ was something that happened quite regularly.
You see Steve Brookstein only lasted a year, while Leon Jackson and Joe McElderry covered the mid ground by managing a good two years before being dropped.
But it was Shayne Ward who managed to stick it out for the longest; six years believe it or not (probably a record).
So all we have left to say it, it’s obviously not all about winning the X Factor (if One Direction are anything to go by) and Matt will probably do just fine on his own.
Good luck Matt, we hope to see you and your roughly shaven face again soon.
