Last night saw a record breaking 50,000 fill the capital for the biggest lights switch on EVER!

To celebrate the launch of Disney's A Christmas Carol celebrities from across the globe gathered in London to enjoy the start of the festive season!

Colin Firth started the celebrations from Regent Street when he pushed the button to light the skies above the famous shopping street, this year celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the lights. The evening saw the like of The Noisettes, Daniel Merriweather and London Community Gospel Choir perform.

In Oxford Circus, the 50 shopping days countdown to Christmas got underway when Jim Carrey and filmmaker Robert Zemeckis flicked the switch to light up Oxford Street and then a record breaking attempt to get the biggest Christmas Carol going ever started! And yes they did it...

Disney’s A Christmas Carol will be released in cinemas across the UK November 6, 2009. We've already seen it and we can tell you it's amazing! If you have any little brothers or sisters going along with you be warned, it's pretty scary at parts (or was that just us), anyway, if you want to get thrust kicking and screaming into the Christmas Spirit then you must go and see this film! Watch out for the 3D snow, it's mind boggling!
Were you there? Do you love Christmas?

We simply can't wait! Comments please...
